Becoming increasingly well known as a result of the NC500 route, this area of northwest Scotland is mountainous, wild and rugged, contrasted by areas of natural calm and beauty.
There is so much more to this area than popular locations seen on a road trip. By running the workshop earlier in the year we will avoid tourism and experience the landscape when the weather can vary from benign to wild within hours, providing a range of photographic opportunities.
Our itinerary will take in a walk on the path around Stac Pollaidh with its views into the mountains of Assynt and the Inverpolly Forest. We will also photograph iconic Suilven, the beaches of the north west, and natural birch woodlands.
In the evening a local expert will talk to us about the geology of the area, which includes the well-known Moine Thrust, a feature that led to the understanding of plate tectonics. We will also spend an evening with a local writer and poet who will talk about the sense of place she experiences living in this inspiring landscape..
